Hi everyone. My name is Deirdre. I am one of the five trainees employed as part of the Nurturing Worcestershire’s Treasures scheme, which is sponsored by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
I will be working in the beautiful Worcester Cathedral Library.
I applied for the Nurturing Worcestershire’s Treasures traineeship shortly after completing my MA in Medieval Studies at the University of York. As an undergraduate, I read English Literature at the University of Exeter.
I am excited to begin at the Cathedral Library, and look forward to working alongside David Morrison, the Cathedral Librarian, and a group of dedicated volunteers.Worcester Cathedral Library carries out some great work in terms of digitization and manuscript repair. Getting to witness and learn more about such projects will be amazing! I hope that the traineeship at Worcester Cathedral nurtures my love of medieval and early modern documentary sources whilst providing some valuable training on new topics, such as conservation, collections care, and IT.
My academic interests include: palaeography (which I am hoping to learn more about in the coming months), the study of medieval household manuscripts, the structure of medieval households more broadly, and Middle English romance. In my spare time I dance or rather try to dance, and teach Zumba fitness. In the coming months you might well see me cycling round Worcester, stuck in its one way systems, as I have only a vague idea of the city’s geography. Also as a general rule of thumb: if there’s caffeine, I’m there.
